On July 24, 2007, Gina Nicole Bronge lost her life in a traffic accident. Shortly after her death, family and friends organized the Gina Bronge Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor her life and her love for hockey. Originally the fund was designed to award scholarships to pay for hockey camps or to offset hockey fees to female hockey players who exemplified characteristics similar to how Gina played this great sport. The fund has been expanded to promote all female athletics, with a focus on hockey. Since its inception, the fund has donated over $14,000 in scholarships. In 2010, the fund sponsored two girls so they could play the game that Gina #22 loved so much.
Gina played for the Highland Park Falcons. Her strong work ethic, determination, leadership, energetic style of play and constant smile has been missed by all of us. Gina was one of the original girls who skated with the Falcons during the 2003-2004 season – the inaugural season for the Falcons Girls Hockey program. Anchoring the team’s defense, Gina skated as the captain of the team to two State Championship Blackhawk Cups with the Falcons in 2006 and again in 2007.
Gina will be forever loved and missed by her parents, brother Phil and step-family. We love you Gina!!
