Jackie was 16 years old when she died. She was driving with her two friends, Alex and Brian. Alex also died with her, he was 17. She was driving – speeding. She flipped the car and hit a tree. She left behind her brother, Brendan; sister, Heather; and her mom and dad. It happened on November 23, 2007.
Jackie was a junior at Bethlehem High School in Delmar, NY. She was also going to BOCES for Computer Applications and worked at Delmar Place, an Assisted Living Center, in the Dining area. She loved her friends and family a lot and was always busy with them! She used to go to Delmar Place before her work shift, or stop in, to play checkers or talk with the residents. Some of them came to her wake and we were really touched by that. Her wake was hours long and friends stood in the rain waiting to come in. We were touched by how many people came
She loved Spongebob Squarepants, music and paint ball with her friends. She was always smiling and helping others out. We miss her so much. There is a void in all our lives. Jackie once said she was never going to leave home, that she was going to live with us forever. So we had her cremated and now she is home with us forever, like she wanted.
I speak with a group called "Choices301" to teens about safe driving in hopes that they will slow down. Please drive responsibly.
