Trevor Ray Riley was born July 22,1978. He grew up in Brownfield Texas till the age of 11 years old. That is when we moved to Lubbock and the boys went to school at Frenship in wolfforth TX. He was the oldest of 3 boys. His brothers are J. Heath Riley and Coley H. Riley. He was very close to both of his brothers. He was their best friend. He helped us raise them and was always a great help to his daddy and me. He was our "Glue" as his brother Heath put it. Trevor loved all sports. He played baseball, basketball and football. He was an exceptional athlete. He loved baseball, but really began to love football his Jr. and Sr. years at Frenship for the Tigers. He had gotten bigger and stronger and decided he liked knocking heads on the football field and off. LOL Yes he enjoyed a rumble or two and I know there are lots of friends out there that remember that as well. Trevor had a love for all kinds of animals. He loved his dogs and cats and he had snakes and iguanas that he loved too. Snake hunting was one of his favorite past times with his dad and brothers. They could make a day of it just driving all over the country looking for old houses or barns to go exploring in to find snakes and other critters. Trevor was a very smart student and loved school. He was a favorite of his teachers and coaches and he enjoyed people of all kinds. He had always wanted to be a vet but had changed his mind and was going to school to be an Orthopedic Surgeon. He would have made a great doctor because he cared about people. Trevor grew up knowing he was special and loved by his family and friends. He was told everyday that he was loved and he did not mind telling the people he cared about that he loved them too. He was never to big or too old to say "I love you". Trevor had moved out of our home on Labor Day weekend, 1996 after he had graduated high school. He had just truned 18 in July and decided he wanted to be on his own. We had a little house out in the country close to Anton TX on 30 acres. He was so excited. He had both of his dogs, Cody and Rocky with him and he was loving life. He would get up every morning, drive to school at Levelland then to Lubbock to work at South Plains Reproduction for David Thompson, then to the mall to work at Athletic Supply til 9:30.Then he would drive back home to Anton. He was living life to the fullest and enjoying it. On Sept. 12, 1996, he came to our house, ate supper with his brothers, talked on the phone for awhile and left to go home and study. 18 minutes later he rolled his pickup on the Littlefield Hwy. at Roundup. He was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the pickup. It came to rest on top of him and he went home to be with his Lord and Savior. God got a warrior that night. We miss him so much each and every day. It has been over 14 years and every day is still a struggle. We know that Trevor was a Christian and that is what makes this bearable. He is is a much better place and we are selfish for wanting him back here with us but it is hard not to. Please to anyone driving on the roads today young and old….WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!!! They may be uncomfortable, or seem like and inconvenience, but they can save your life. I truly believe that now and wish so bad that just that one thing could have possibly saved his life. But as a mom, I truly believe that the Lord called Trevor home that night and he Knew that we only had him for a little while. The 18 years he was ours was a gift from God and it was time for him to go home to Heaven. Our comfort is that we will see him soon when we too get to Heaven and oh what a glorious reunion it will be. Drive safe and please buckle up.
